Introducing: Alexander Koutny

February 19th, 2010

South African born Alexander Koutny’s Spring 2010 collection, entitled KASKADE – “Rise arch rise”… “fall water fall” is inspired by “arches and water finally ending their intolerance of one another.”  The inventive lineup features unique prints designed by Alexander himself, each style a piece of art in its own right.  The Shadow Tank is featured in this beautiful editorial in Zink’s March Spring Fashion Issue.

Introducing: Willow

August 8th, 2009

Welcome Australian label Willow from designer Kit Willow-Podgornik – fluid and elegant yet strong, with just enough toughness to be right at home at LOM.  Blouses with laser-cut chiffon feathers, and this structured dress offering the first peek into this season’s shoulder trend.  Can’t you picture our First Lady in the ivory number? – minus the chartreuse, thigh-high boots of course.

Spotlight: Brazil

June 14th, 2009

In January 2008, I was able to take a trip to Sao Paulo, Brazil during Fashion Week at Ibirapuera Park. Although I’ve carried several lines from Brazil, and was aware of the country’s up and coming talent, I was not expecting to be so inspired by the fashion and people! Strolling in Jardins, any stereotype of a “dull, ugly, unsafe place” was, for me, vastly outweighed by what was so clearly a design city in every sense of the term. The art, architecture, design, and fashion is just fiercely cool, modern, and daring. There seems to be such an enthusiasm and creativity present in an emerging fashion market.

galeria-melissa-24Sao Paulo was the site of some of my most memorable fashion moments to date (not to mention food moments as well!…Jun Sakamoto!) – from visiting the Rua Oscar Freire shops of many of the Brazilian designers we’ve carried at LOM, to shopping the beautifully designed, minimalist boutiques of home-grown talents Alexandre Herchcovitch, Reinaldo Lourenco, Lita Mortari, Osklen, and many more, to sharing an elevator ride at the incomparable Hotel Emiliano with none other than Vivienne Westwood!!! (in town for a collaboration with Melissa shoes). The iconic Melissa plastic shoes have their concept gallery on Oscar Freire and my husband made me take this picture since I share the same name…(corny, I know!…hehe J)

Two Brazilian lines we’ve featured for multiple seasons are Coven and Lerario Beatriz. I love Coven for its artistic and innovative knitwear, such as this season’s full skirt with metallic fabric resulting in a “weighty” and “wrinkled” texture…and Brazilian born Ana Lerario for her intricate and unexpected details, like the trench with authentic bird feathers, or silk skirt with metal plating, almost like armor. Be sure to check out these pieces along with the other Coven and Lerario Beatriz pieces on our site!!!
